Today we celebrate the 5th anniversary of Synchronicity, my one hour electronic music radio show on FRISKY.FM. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years already and how time flies by. Looking at it now, I can’t help but notice how much I have grown with music over the past decade. I am grateful for all the support that FRISKY has given me as well as the trust some of the great DJs and labels have put in me.
I started DJing in 2006 after moving from Beirut where I met the ones who’d introduce me to DJing. We all parted ways and have grown into our thing. I remember going from Tribal House and swearing by the Iberican sounds, to techno and minimalism before finding my touch in Progressive and Deep Tech House.
My early set up was a Behringer BCD2000 that I had bought for 200 euros. Controllers weren’t a thing 10 years ago. Now I work on anything, Ableton, Traktor, CDJs, DDJs. Just give me some headphones and I’ll jam.
Synchronicity wasn’t a random name for the show, but rather a search on how my music could affect you, as a listener. Synchronicity is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as “the coincidental occurrence of events and especially psychic events (as similar thoughts in widely separated persons or a mental image of an unexpected event before it happens) that seem related but are not explained by conventional mechanisms of causality —used especially in the psychology of C. G. Jung” – Merriam Webster. See where I went with it? It’s all about the connection that is there but not there.
I might not be the most notorious DJ out there, nor the most famous or known. My replay ratings on Soundcloud are modest and I pride myself in playing the tunes that I love and that make me stop what I am doing to listen carefully to them. I still can’t multitask when listening to music, it just takes all my energy. But I am proud of my work and I pride myself in saying that my sets are my statement to those who wish to listen.
The 48th episode is about movement and a celebration of Berlin, a city I hold dear. Search for the layers inwards and explore the sounds through dancing and holding your breath before every drop. It’s a cliffhanger of emotions condensed into one hour of my favorite tunes.
Enjoy the upcoming episode on Thursday 20th at 4pm CET on FRISKY.FM
